Joe has over 30 years of experience providing actuarial and strategic support to many of the nation’s largest health systems, insurers, reinsurers and employers in developing and managing the risk and operating performance of their risk-bearing healthcare products.

His expertise includes:

• Value based care products such as ACOs and provider sponsored health plans

• Captive support and medical stop loss and provider excess reinsurance pricing

• Financial modeling and reserving

• Actuarial certifications and appointed actuary support

• Data analytics, experience and trend analysis

• Network optimization strategies and provider reimbursement analysis

• Risk modeling and risk mitigation strategy development

Before forming Curran Strategic Consulting Services, Joe worked at Willis Towers Watson for 9-years where he was a leader of the health systems consulting team which supported health systems with their value-based initiatives, a member of the Health & Benefits actuarial leadership team and a member of the WTW provider industry leadership team. He led the development of HealthMAPS, WTW’s proprietary medical stop loss rating software, captive support for medical stop loss coverages and reserving support for health insurer clients.

Prior to WTW, Joe’s other positions included being a partner at Windsor Strategy Partners, a consulting actuary at Gallagher Benefit Services and KPMG, and an actuarial analyst at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Joe is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in actuarial science and economics from Lebanon Valley College

Joe is married and has two children. He and his wife live in the suburban Philadelphia Pennsylvania area.
